Why use fallback links?

If a brand closes its partner program, any existing links to that brand become "broken" or invalid instantly. Manually finding and replacing these links across your website or social channels is time-consuming.

Until those links are updated, visitors who click them will have a poor experience, and you will miss out on potential commissions.

Fallback links solve this by providing an automated safety net. They allow you to continue profiting from your traffic while you work on updating your content. Because fallback links are managed at the channel level, you can customize the redirect destination for each of your channels (e.g., one setting for your blog and another for your YouTube channel), ensuring your visitors always land on the most relevant page.

How to add fallback links

Setting up your fallback links is quick and easy. Because fallback links are applied at the channel level, you can choose the best strategy for each of your channel individually.

Follow these steps to configure your settings:

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, click on Account and select Settings then to to the tab Fallback links.

  2. From the dropdown menu, select your channel followed by the fallback type. You can also select the option All to use the same fallback type for all of your channels.

  3. Save Changes: Once you have made your selection, click Save tab. Your fallback settings are now active for that channel!

Type of fallback links

Because fallback links are configured at the channel level, you have the flexibility to choose a different strategy for each of your platforms. This allows you to tailor the redirect experience based on the specific audience for that channel.

Below are the options available:

Fallback offers

This option is very good if your channel has approved relationships with brands that have Fallback offers. If a visitor clicks on any of your broken links, they will be redirected to a page that shows all offers from brands that your channel is approved for. The offers that are displayed on the page are specifically created for this purpose.

If a visitor that clicked on your broken link ends up on the fallback offer page and then continues and makes a purchase on any of the brands listed with offers, you will earn commission from that purchase.

Plain broken link error page

If you choose “Plain broken link error page” your visitors will see a page with information that the page they are trying to access isn’t available.

Original URL

Choose Original URL if you wish to redirect your visitors to the brand, regardless if the brand is still active or if your relation has been rejected for some reason.

This option is good if you wish to provide your visitors with the experience they might expect when clicking on your link, but you will not be able to earn commission for that traffic.

Custom URL

If you prefer to have your own fallback page that your visitors that clicks on broken links, you should choose this option and then add the URL which you want the visitors to be redirected to.
